Kizhi + Solovki

Day 1:

  • Arrival in Petrozavodsk. Transfer to the restaurant. Breakfast.
  • City tour of Petrozavodsk. Photo stop near the monument to Peter the Great.
  • Departure for Kizhi Island by hydrofoil.
  • Excursion in the “Kizhi” Museum of wooden architecture and cultural history. Lunch boxes.
  • Arrival in Petrozavodsk. Transfer to the hotel. Accommodation.
  • Dinner at the hotel.

Day 2:

  • Breakfast.
  • Departure for Belomorsk (380 km).
  • Visit of the Sandarmokh burial site of victims of Soviet political repressions. Sandarmokh is an international memorial and the largest burial place of victims of Soviet political repressions in the northwestern part of Russia. According to the latest data more than 7000 people were buried there, more than 1000 of victims were prisoners of the Solovetsky GULAG.
  • Lunch at “Malaya Medvezhka” tourist complex on the shore of Lake Onego.
  • Excursion to the ancient stone carvings (petroglyphs). Long before the written language was discovered, people expressed their thoughts by creating images on rocks. They are considered the superb specimens of the Neolithic cave painting.
  • Accommodation at hotel “Gandvik” in Belomorsk. Dinner.

Day 3:

  • Breakfast. Transfer to the pier.
  • Departure for the Solovetsky Isles.
  • Arrival on the Solovky. Transfer to hotel “Priyut”. Accommodation. Lunch.
  • Excursion around the Kremlin and the Solovetsky Monastery which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991.
  • Dinner.

Day 4:

  • Breakfast.
  • Transfer to the boat station. Boat excursion along the canals and inner lakes of Solovetsky Island. Today you will get acquainted with the system of canals that monks created to unite the numerous lakes of Solovky to deliver pure water to the monastery. While roaring your boat you will cross 5 lakes and go along countless narrow canals where water is almost still.
  • Picnic after the boat trip.
  • Excursion to Mountain Sekirnaya. You will climb to the highest point of Solovetsky Island, admire the breathtaking panorama and see the lighthouse church. In the times of the Solovetsky Camp that was a cruel isolation ward for prisoners.
  • Dinner at the hotel.

Day 5:

  • Breakfast.
  • Excursion to Zayatsky Island. You will visit the largest pagan sanctuary that dates from II-I millennium B.C., see the famous labyrinths, the first stone harbour in Russia and the monuments of the Andreevsky Skete.
  • Lunch.
  • Transfer to the pier.
  • Departure for Kem.
  • Dinner.
  • Transfer to the railway station.
  • Departure for St. Petersburg.
