The Czar’s Village is one of the most famous suburbs of St. Petersburg. Its gardens and parks were laid out by the best landscapers and gardeners. Its palaces and pavilions were built by the most talented architects and decorated by the best Russian and foreign sculptors, painters and craftsmen. Unique collections of art were gathered in the Catherine palace. The majestic building extending over more than 300 meters became the compositional center of the whole palace and park complex. The town was renamed in 1937 after Alexander Pushkin.
Ekatherinsky Palace was finished building and rebuilt in 1740-1750,
in the reign of Empress Elizaveta Petrobna, which differed by special love towards luxury. Due to her generosity and to the talent of many best architects palace appeared, strikening and beauty of facades and richness of interiors. This is the very place where the famous Amber room was situated, stolen by the Germans during the war of 1941-1945.
